The formal description for tags is: they’re a different form of taxonomy. I had no idea what this means. I’ll try to translate, and give an example of usefulness.

How does email work – in simple words
Posted on 13. Jan, 2012 by Jay "WP Guru" Versluis in Knowledge Base
We all use email every day, but most of us take it for granted without knowing how it actually works. There’s some pretty strange terminology around this subject – let me explain it to you in simple words.
Your Local Email Client
First let’s talk about the email client. That’s the programme you use to check your emails. Outlook is an email client, so is Thunderbird, Mail on Mac, Outlook Express, and even the app you use on your smart phone which you can read and send emails with. Many email services also provide access via a web interface in your browser, those are called Webmail Clients – and they’re also email clients.
Whenever you hear someone ask “what is you email client?” then what they mean is “which thing is it you’re using to read your email”.

Which blogging platform should you go with?
Posted on 17. Nov, 2011 by Julia in Knowledge Base
There are so many content management systems (or blogging platforms) on the market, many of them offer a free service. Some of them that spring to mind are these:
- Blogger (by Google)
- WordPress
- Live Spaces (by Microsoft, now defunct)
- Movable Type
- Type Pad
- Joomla
- Drupal
The choice is endless and the list could go on – but only two are serious candidates, at least for me. This comes down to personal preference and I encourage you to try them all… but who has the time to do that?
Let me explain the differences.
Backing up your site

You want to make sure you have a local copy of your website. That’s in case you want to leave your current hosting provider, or you fear that important content could be lost in a data centre crash. I’ve seen it, it’s not pretty.
Here are some plugins you can use to backup your site from the WordPress back end.
How to add custom menus

Menus can be a bit cumbersome. The key thing is that you need to create the menu first, then activate it on the left hand side. Here’s what your structure looks like once you’ve created a menu:
What does RSS mean?
Posted on 17. Nov, 2011 by Julia in Knowledge Base
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a generic content feed of your website’s content.
Every WordPress site has one (several in fact).
For example, my website is http://wphosting.tv and my RSS feed is http://wphosting.tv/feed. Have a look at the differences.
