Should I have more than one website?

Posted on 17. Nov, 2011 by in Knowledge Base

Depending on the amount of projects you have, it may be a good idea to create separate websites for them. However, when you’re starting out with your very first website it’s probably better to focus on one, and then later start another one.

Let me share some thoughts with you.

Advice on Shopping Carts

Posted on 17. Nov, 2011 by in Knowledge Base

Web Shopping carts are a very complex system, but basically you have two options here: one is completely free and not very elegant, and one that integrates with WordPress much better but will cost some money. Let me describe the free version here first, then I’ll explain the advantages of a shopping cart system.

Bear with me… The first solution CAN be used with WordPress.com, the second solution requires you to have a self-hosted site (like at WP Hosting).

Google Analytics with a Jetpack twist

Posted on 16. Nov, 2011 by in Knowledge Base

In  my opinion Google Analytics is a great service, but it provides almost too much information for me.

I’m using a plugin called Jetpack which uses Google Analytics but automatically filters my own visits to the site out (whenever I’m logged on to my own site that is). It provides all the info you want, such as daily / weekly / monthly unique visitors, what they click, what they’ve searched for to get to your site, etc.

Help! Can’t log in to WordPress!

Posted on 16. Nov, 2011 by in Knowledge Base

It burns, it burns!

There could be a number of reasons for it. As a rule of thumb, the WordPress Login Screen is always at

http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin

or if you’ve installed WordPress in a subfolder it’ll be

http://yourdomain.com/subfolder/wp-admin

If you get a White Screen of Death instead of the login screen then you have a plugin or theme failure – which means a lot of work…but I can always help you rectify this should you ever find yourself staring at a blank screen.

Raise a Support Ticket and we’ll work something out if you need help.

Affiliate Marketing

I must be honest here: making money out of affiliate marketing is a huge challenge as it’s technically very easy to do, so a lot of people are doing it. Many of them have been doing it for many years so the market is very competitive.

Dynamically forming groups of users in WordPress

Posted on 16. Nov, 2011 by in Knowledge Base, Plugins

There’s a plugin called WordPress eMember that may help you out there.

You can setup user roles like you want and it will protect certain content areas from non-logged in members. It’s very flexible in the way it controls access too: either a whole sub-directory, the entire domain, parts of posts / pages or comments can be protected using shortcodes. I believe it has an option to import a list of users into the database.
