Posted by on 4:57 pm in Knowledge Base | 0 comments

Here are some instructions on how to set a video to private in YouTube: First login to your YouTube account, then click on that little grey arrow at the top right corner next to your user name. It opens a sub menu with a link to VIDEOS (by which they mean your uploaded videos).   Click on videos to see a list of your uploads. Pick the one you’d like to turn private by clicking the EDIT INFO button.   Further down under Broadcast and Sharing Options you’ll find three options that define who can see your creation:  ...

If you want to stick with WordPress.com but would like you blog to appear as a particular domain (like yourdomain.com) then you can do that right from within the backend. Should I have more than one website?

Posted by on 4:29 pm in Knowledge Base | 0 comments

Depending on the amount of projects you have, it may be a good idea to create separate websites for them. However, when you’re starting out with your very first website it’s probably better to focus on one, and then later start another one. Let me share some thoughts with you. If you had several unrelated projects (for example a Vegetarian business, but also maybe a car repair business) then two website would make perfect sense. But since your services are very related (i.e. both feature vegetarian food in a certain area) one...

Advice on Shopping Carts

Posted by on 4:21 pm in Knowledge Base | 0 comments

Web Shopping carts are a very complex system, but basically you have two options here: one is completely free and not very elegant, and one that integrates with WordPress much better but will cost some money. Let me describe the free version here first, then I’ll explain the advantages of a shopping cart system. Bear with me… The first solution CAN be used with WordPress.com, the second solution requires you to have a self-hosted site (like at WP Hosting). Google Analytics with a Jetpack twist

Posted by on 5:11 pm in Knowledge Base | 0 comments

In  my opinion Google Analytics is a great service, but it provides almost too much information for me. I’m using a plugin called Jetpack which uses Google Analytics but automatically filters my own visits to the site out (whenever I’m logged on to my own site that is). It provides all the info you want, such as daily / weekly / monthly unique visitors, what they click, what they’ve searched for to get to your site, etc. It provides some other nice functionality too, like Akismet integration (that’s for comment...

Where to get Twitter Widgets and Logos

Posted by on 5:09 pm in Knowledge Base, Plugins | 0 comments

You can get plugins for that: Twittercounter.com and Twitter Remote spring to mind. If you’re after a prominent logo I would use Twitter’s official logos from here: http://twitter.com/about/resources/logos with a headline that says “follow me on Twitter”. You could also amend the text above your official Twitter Widget to read Follow Me on Twitter. I like the original Twitter widget from http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets – looks nice, it’s very customisable and does the trick. There’s also...

I need you more than a piece of chocolate on a Sunday night!

Hi Jay, Thank you very much. I have many talents but understanding anything to do with computers/scanners… isn’t one of them! I am truly “technology thick” and the fact that i didn’t realise my scanner could save in any format proves it! I have rescanned the document and scrolled down to JPEG option! but thank you so much. I have requested you to be my friend because clearly i do need you more than a piece of chocolate on a Sunday night! Pascale
